A 55-year-old man has been arrested in Canterbury after paedophile hunters tracked him down on eBay.

Members of a group calling themselves Silent Justice descended on Starle Close yesterday at around 8pm (August 20) and confronted a man after they had organised to collect an item from him through the internet auction website.

The man allegedly sent inappropriate messages, pictures and videos to girls he believed to be underage via an online messaging app.

They describe themselves as “child protection enforcers” and claim the man had been chatting with up to seven ‘decoys’ between the ages of 11 and 14.

A video of the sting was streamed live on Facebook before police are seen arriving to deal with the situation.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 8pm on Sunday 20 August 2017 officers attended Starle Close, Canterbury, and arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of grooming.

“He remains in custody.”
