A man has been charged with arson and threats to kill following a car fire in Maidstone.

Richard Parkin, 34, of Allen Street, was charged with the two offences and is also accused of two incidents of criminal damage.

Kent Police was called to the scene at 1.30am on Sunday (September 3) after receiving reports of an incident on Allen Street.

By 2am, crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service had brought the situation under control.

The 34-year-old was also charged with two incidents of criminal damage, including one alleged to have taken place in a police station.

Parkin is accused of criminal damage to a door in the property of the road and urinating in a police cell.

He was remanded in custody until his next court date after appearing at Maidstone Magistrates Court on Monday (September 4).
